Tucked into a strip mall on Northwest Highway, Illuminated Brew Works is a fun & funky spot that gives off “occult” vibes. Friendly folks working there with a wide range of beers to suit many tastes. Vibes are immaculate and the beers are great. My wife and I checked this place out cuz we were in the area and we will come back just for IBW for sure!

Staff was friendly and welcoming. Beers were delicious, I’m not even a fan of IPAs and theirs were pretty solid. I loved their porter and their hard seltzer, absolutely delicious. We also happened in when they had live music, which was fun! We will be back. ❤️

This place is a vibe! The beers are great, they're very LGBTQ friendly, the decor is awesome, we ordered a pizza and they had paper plates, napkins, and crushed red pepper for us, and there were plenty of dogs to make friends with. I'll definitely be coming back

Suncatcher Brewing was stop #7 on my 2025 Chicago Brewery Exploration. The tap list was pretty limited, but the locals didn’t seem to mind—and honestly, what they had was solid. Just hit Suncatcher Brewing in Humboldt Park for a solid evening and was seriously impressed. Spent about $20 on two 12‑oz tasters—Summer Bier and MI Pale—and grabbed a 32‑oz crowler to go. Vibes are laid‑back in a converted service station with big windows and a sweet patio. Beers are low‑ABV but full flavor, super crisp and clean. Staff were chill, beers were banging. Will def be back!

This is a great brewery for hanging out with a group, having a party, or bringing your dog. The space is very large and the upstairs is also large and beautiful. The beers are solid and there is a good selection. Make sure to eat beforehand, as there are only snacks here. Parking is very easy in their dedicated parking lot or all along the street.

Love this spot! It was my first time back since the rooftop opened and it is SO gorgeous! It’s going to be incredible in the summer but the views of the skyline are so pretty. Beers are top notch and very true to style. Definitely worth the trek to the far west loop.

We hosted a birthday at Midwest Coast Brewing this past Saturday and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The upstairs area with the retractable roof was a showstopper—spacious, stylish, and incredibly functional. The team was professional and accommodating, and the beer was a huge hit. I love that this brewery opened earlier this year in Malt Row. Not that the area lacks beer, but more breweries are always better! This one is very inviting on a quiet street with plenty of parking. It's a very easy place to just pop in and have some tasters or a quick full pour.

The MO here seems to brew smaller batches that rotate frequently, which I love so that I can try a variety of beers and styles. They also always have a hard seltzer on tap, and I haven't had a bad one yet. In fact, I haven't had a bad beer here at all! The staff is always friendly, there is plenty of space to sit, there are board games to play, and there is a merch area with some cool-looking stuff.

I will definitely keep coming here as along as I can to support the business, as long as they keep doing what they're doing!

Great find. I saw it on Google maps when checking directions to another very nearby brewery and wanted to check it out. Did not disappoint! It’s a little grittier than your typical Chicago brewery. Great beers and service. Seating is basically in the brew house. Parking lot available on the weekends. Near a EL stop. It’s a smaller place but it’s cozy. I will be back for sure.

Casual, relaxed atmosphere. Great variety of beer, seltzers & wine. They also have a couple non alcoholic beers. In addition to a large bar with extremely comfortable bar stools, they have tables & chairs and a comfy sitting area with a couch. They do not serve food, but you’re welcome to bring food or have it delivered. And kids & pets are welcome. Nice apparel choices…shirts, beanies, beer glasses. Another nice touch is that they have hooks to hang purses under the bar as well as outlets for charging phones. Parking lot behind the brewery. I definitely recommend Demo Brewing Company.

They opened up about a month ago, and while there are some kinks to work out (outdoor signage, more seating, and sound system to name a few), this place is a great spot to pop in and have a couple beers!

Like others have mentioned, the indoor space is limited due to the brewing equipment (your beer can't get much fresher), but the main draw is the spacious patio!  There's currently a couple mainstay beers on tap with more being brewed; I'm a big fan of the Avond'Ale.

I look forward to updating this review in a few months when they get their feet under them.  Welcome to the neighborhood!

Asked whether or not they are part of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild and [Summer] Passport and one of the fellas let us know that they are not on good terms with ICBG, noting a one-way street sort of deal (Thanks for the info?). We managed to visit on a beautiful October afternoon, so we were able to take advantage of the (dog-friendly) patio area. Very nice neighborhood atmosphere, and a great selection of beer from light to dark and in between. Nice amount of space if you need to sit inside. Spiteful Brewing Tap room is a relaxed, comfortable space with a wide variety of beers (to drink on premises or take away.)
I had the vienna lager and an IPA. Both were super tasty. My friends and I shared a large pretzel served piping hot with generous dollop of mustard. I am excited to go again soon.

Very pleasant.   Aye outside and it was nice.  There were several children running around, which I don't care for, but that is ok.
I got the paella and it was very light and nothing to complain about.  We started with the happy hour nachos, which were small and not hot, but tasted fine.  The cheesecake dessert was nothing to write home about.

Service was good right up to the end when it took a long time to get our dessert.

This is one of the best cideries in the area. But if you’re into beer, they make that too! The building is super cool and historic, and parking is easy on Irving Park out front. The food is delicious as well, but I admit I usually only get the ciders. Eris is woman-owned, which I fully support!

Great Central Brewing Company is a hidden gem in the Fulton Market area. I visited on a Saturday afternoon and was impressed by the spacious, modern taproom with high ceilings and plenty of seating. Solid spot in the West Loop to kick back with some crisp brews. Dropped about $20 on a flight and a pint—tried the Helles Lager and the Kick Push IPA. The Helles was clean and smooth, the IPA had that juicy haze I dig. The taproom’s got a chill, open vibe—feels like a modern beer hall. No kitchen, but they let you bring your own grub. Ordered a 1/2 1/2 Hot Doug’s and Veggie Pizza (to be healthy of course). While it was just the two of us we got a large because it was just a few more bucks. Turns out the sizes match because there was enough pizza leftover for another person or two; would recommend if you want leftovers like us.

The pizza itself was awesome, flavorful and delicious, always get Hot Doug’s!Paired with their brews and it brought the meal together! The wait staff were busy working but were always attentive and really made our night. The place is loud (especially if you sat next to kids/babes) but it makes sense because the pizza is great for families, couples, and everyone in-between.

Would come again and be completely stuffed with good pizza!

Nice atmosphere to watch sports. Could definitely see this place being packed with nicer weather outside.

Ordered the hot Doug’s atomic pizza. I was intrigued with this as I’ve never had pepper jack cheese on my pizza but was quickly disappointed as I couldn’t really taste it. The sausage and onions were alright. Crust was very floppy and the entire pie was drenched in grease. Also, I chuckled a little with how uneven these slices were.

While the pizza wasn’t the best, the carrot cake was excellent. The cake was so moist and light. Also, the nuts and raisins were sparse which I prefer in my carrot cake. Finally, the cream cheese frosting was good but there wasn’t enough.

Good atmosphere and dessert, not so good pizza.

We came in as a group of 5 before a Blackhawks game and it was a full house. Our server Joey went above and beyond to explain the menu and beer options and we loved her enthusiasm. Food was incredible including the January Jones burger!

Joey was our server and she was amazing!  The food was delicious!  I had the Mariachi El Dip, my husband had the Pot Roast Grilled Cheese Sandwich and we shared some Buffalo Wings...and of course the Beer is always great!

Easy access exit Ashland. We came on a Saturday 330pm and it was quiet and chill. Music was oldies which was unexpected but the service and food were on point. I’m definitely keeping this on my must revisits. I had the Sell Out IPA and it was smooth. We also indulged in the buffalo cauliflower and Mac and cheese so for you vegetarians there are excellent options.

One of the best pizza places in town.

I came on a Tuesday to finally try their thin crust and boy they did not disappoint.

I got a half and half pepperoni and veggie and it was a glorious experience. The crust was SO incredibly thin, crunching satisfyingly with each bite. Their cheese, sauce, and toppings are also delicious, making for an incredible pizza. For dessert I had the soft serve with a side of smashed berries and a double shot of espresso. If you’re looking for a simple vanilla berry sundae, this is it.

Food: perfect.

Service: fantastic.

Atmosphere: airy and bright, welcoming, invites you into the process (you can see the ovens and even sit across them).

Bungalow by Middle Brow is hands down one of the best hidden gems in Chicago—and it might just serve the best tavern-style pizza in the entire city.

Tavern Tuesday review:

The tavern style pizza is one of the best in the city.

The beer is sublime.

The bar is lively and extremely busy. The music wasn't too loud on our visit and we had good service with the server checking in multiple times.

I would have tipped at least 20% anyway so the automatic 21% isn't going to send me spiraling and it's very clearly labeled and communicated prior to and during payment.

Middle brow bungalow was a very trendy bar. It had a lovely patio, a nice indoor place, and a bar. It felt very alive and very trendy. The music was a little loud, and by that I mean I was drinking a beer and crocheting while watching a movie... And couldn't hear the movie on my earbuds because the music was so loud at the bar. The servers were amazing. I was crocheting, while drinking, and they all struck up conversations with me about my project and talking about beer. So friendly so nice. I did not partake in any food, but I can tell you that the beer was absolutely delicious.

Everything about this place is excellent. Their “tavern” style pizza was incredible, cracker-thin and served here with sausage and shishito peppers. The style is a little different than the usual tavern style pie, a class of its own with A+ crust, cheese, sauce (the special here was a touch sweet, which I liked), and toppings.

Can’t say enough about the service. Came here alone at about 4:30pm on a Tuesday, and the place was already getting busy. Still, I got seated immediately at the bar, and the bartender was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the process behind the beer and pizza. Helped recommend me both the nights/ special pizza and the nice Pilsner, which was the best version of that beer I’ve ever had. I need to come back here to show this place off to friends.

Cool place. Pretty big patio if you want to sit outside. Tons of parking if you’re driving there. We had a corn maze cream ale made from IL grown corn. It was cold crisp and refreshing for a hot summer day. Also had a pineapple coconut stout that was pretty unique. Food was solid. Irish bread and butter are a must. Big bowl of thin fries were nice and hot and salty. Brussels sprouts had a subtle kick. Beef stew was good. Not a whole lot of beef in it. Big space if you have a big group it would be a good place to check out.

We stopped by here right when they opened and although I don't drink, I was really impressed! It was decorated so nicely for Pride Month and they had a nice menu of some bar bites and also a few n/a options.

It's a great vibe, service was solid! They have a little store you can grab some souvenirs. Definitely worth a stop, even if you're not a Guinness drinker.

I’ve been a here few times by now. I don’t frequent the West Loop because of its usual clientele and the pricing… but I never regret a visit to Guinness. The best part is that the service is always top notch. The two standouts are Jack and Raquel—truly delightful individuals who will keep us coming back. AND! The beer is pretty solid, too.

I got to check out the Guinness Open Gate Brewery Chicago while visiting town. The Harp set up on top of the bar is really cool, lots of merch too. Guinness pours were good and I absolutely loved their micheladas. I didn’t have any food. I had dessert, their crème brûlée was really good. Service is good, bartenders are friendly and I like the lively Irish atmosphere.

My only con about Guinness brewery is the parking, it can be a little challenging to park.
